LGBTQ-friendly countries for digital nomads

The pandemic has seriously changed the way we work, and many workplace trends, including the increase in remote work, have become extremely common and show no signs of going away. The rise of digital nomadism has been taking shape for some time now and, although it has probably been accelerated by the latest health events, its anchoring in society and its ability to serve as a way of life is certainly here to stay. As a digital nomad, you can literally get up and go. The world is your office as long as you have your laptop and a solid internet connection by your side. But the world is also an unequal place and doesn’t always suit all genders and beliefs. For members of the LGBTQ community, finding a place with laws that accommodate this lifestyle can be difficult, as some places around the world still have draconian laws. And even those who have laws in place protecting the rights of members of the LGBTQ community may lack the social attitudes necessary to support those laws. With all this in mind, let’s now look at LGBTQ-friendly countries for digital nomads.

Albania

Albania offers a mix of stunning coastlines and mountainous terrain to explore. We could say that it is a mixture of the Mediterranean and the Alps, all meeting where the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. Exploration is pleasant and varied. Then there is the Ionian coast, which can be compared to the French Riviera, not to mention a host of picturesque little port towns.

Social attitudes towards members of the LGBTQ community are changing positively, and although same-sex marriage is not yet legal, the law allows same-sex relationships. All in all, not a bad place for a digital nomad.

Mexico

Gay Guide to Mexico

Mexico is by far one of the most culturally diverse countries, rich in history and fantastic landscapes. Mexico’s tropical climate means that if you like equal doses of sun and rain, this is the perfect place to wear the t-shirt.

From sprawling Mexico City, home to more than 20 million people, to Baja, Puerto Vallarta, Oaxaca, Tulum and more, Mexico offers everything from utter modernity to tourist places and superb beaches, not forgetting the cuisine. Additionally, Mexico offers full protection to members of the LGBTQ community. Same-sex relationships and marriage are legal, and the law provides discrimination rights for LGBTQ people.

Bermuda

Bermuda is often mistakenly believed to be part of the Caribbean. Although they are part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for commercial purposes, they do not correspond geographically to the Caribbean. They do, however, offer all interested parties very similar lush beaches and a typical but very attractive island ambiance.

If you want pink sand beaches, Bermuda is waiting for you. Additionally, they are incredibly welcoming to LGBTQ visitors; same-sex relationships and marriages are legal, and there are also rights to discrimination in employment.

Estonia

Gay Guide to Estonia

Estonia is also considered the most digitally advanced country due to its ability to work entirely based on cloud technologies. Situated on the Baltic Sea, Estonia is often described as one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Northern Europe.

So if you’re a fan of rich history and architecture, Estonia might start to speak to you. Made up of more than 1,500 islands, Estonia offers rocky beaches, numerous lakes and ancient forests. If you like the outdoors and hiking, Estonia will definitely appeal to you. Same-sex relationships are permitted and, although marriage is not yet legal, civil unions are recognized.
